Importance of Getters
STAYDRY products are developed to meet stringent industry requirements enabling hermetic package manufacturers security and peace of mind to meet industry reliability standards; including JEDEC, MIL STD 883 and NASA outgassing requirements.
Many hermetic packages and modules containing integrated microelectronic devices may out gas H2, H20, CO2 and other species over time. These outgassed species inside a hermetic package may degrade functionality of the device or specific components. Specific enabling technology products support stringent industry reliability standards; including JEDEC, MIL specification and Bellcore.
Outgassing in Hermetic Packages
Hydrogen outgassed from the hermetic package itself is a primary concern to long-term device reliability of GaAs devices which are susceptible to hydrogen poisoning. Hermetically sealed packages with semiconductor devices containing Pd or Pt gate metallization can have the hydrogen diffuse in the gate metallization and cause current or gain reduction of the device. Hydrogen trapped inside a hermetic package may degrade device functionality due to hydride formation with other metal substrates within the package. In some cases hydrogen can also create moisture in the presence of O2.
The Role of STAYDRY Getters in Hermetic Packages
STAYDRY getters capture, and in many cases, convert harmful species that are outgassed or present in a hermetic package. STAYDRY getters have been a proven solution to eliminate harmful contaminants for over 20 years in the aerospace, medical and telecom markets.
Depending upon your outgassed material concerns, manufacturing process and end-use device requirements, MacDermid Alpha has a STAYDRY getter product to maximize total cost of ownership while meeting life-time requirements.

Alpha Getters include:
STAYDRY® H2-3000 Hydrogen and Moisture Getter
STAYDRY H2-3000 film is a unique getter, which employs an active hydrogen getter and desiccant for water absorption, dispersed in a flexible silicone polymer matrix.
The high permeability of the polymer matrix to both hydrogen and moisture assures a rapid uptake of both gases. The getter operates through a reaction, which is irreversible for hydrogen. Therefore, there are no hazardous or problematic side effects, once absorbed gasses are trapped from harming the device.
- Meets MIL STD 883 requirements
- Extremely low outgassing
- Easily reworkable material
STAYDRY® H2-3000PSA Hydrogen and Moisture Getter with Backing Adhesive
STAYDRY H2-3000PSA film is a unique getter, which employs an active hydrogen getter and desiccant for water absorption, dispersed in a flexible silicone polymer matrix. The high permeability of the polymer matrix to both hydrogen and moisture assures a rapid uptake of both gases.
The getter operates through a reaction, which is irreversible for hydrogen. Therefore, there are no hazardous or problematic side effects, once absorbed these gasses are trapped, from harming the device. This PSA (Pressure Sensitive Adhesive) version of film has a low outgassing PSA on one side that allows easier and quicker attach of the getter film to substrates during assembly.
- Meets MIL STD 883 requirements
- Extremely low outgassing
- Easily reworkable material
- Fast bonding to a variety of substrates
- Meets ASTM E595 NASA outgassing
STAYDRY® Z20 Moisture Getter Film
STAYDRY Z20 is a film-based moisture absorber designed for applications requiring low outgassing and high reliability in hermetic packages. A unique getter, which employs an active desiccant for water absorption, dispersed in a flexible silicone polymer matrix.
The film has a low outgassing PSA (Pressure Sensitive Film) on one side that allows easier and quicker attach of the getter film to substrates during assembly. The high permeability of the polymer matrix to moisture assures a rapid uptake of the gas in one hour or less.
- Meets MIL STD 883 requirements
- Extremely low outgassing
- Easily reworkable material
- Fast bonding to a variety of substrates
STAYDRY® GA2000-2 Particle and Moisture Getter Patented Technology
STAYDRY GA2000-2 is a tacky material when cured and functions as both a particle and moisture getter for applications requiring PIND testing and increased operating life in hostile environments.
- Meets MIL STD 883 requirements
- Extremely low outgassing
- Fast bonding to a variety of substrates
